Value First
Elle Stephenson
There’s a story behind an abandoned baby shoe, an empty rabbit cage with a hole in the side, or a pair of pants with mud on the knees. Similarly, orchestrated objects can tell a story about human behavior. “Value First” is an installation that communicates these stories wordlessly. The readymade objects have no titles, and the space has no logical cohesion, but you’re entirely present with the art when you're in it. The viewer joins the discordant cacophony of voiceless stories with a vague feeling that there’s a visual language they’re not being clued in on. When engaging with these interactive elements and series of objects, the audience says to themselves, “There’s a story there.”
Value First is on view from Jan 16 - Feb 7 with gallery hours M-F by appointment. Contact jbaker@cornerstoneassoc.org
