Laura Bruyere
relationships, interactions & "everyday seems like Halloween"
"The ways people talk and look at you are here, big faces and the holidays."
Laura Bruyere is an artist who brings light and enthusiasm into the studio. No matter the medium, Laura commits herself fully to her projects. Laura is inspired by things she thinks are "cool" such as wrestling, playing video games, listening to music, dancing, and watching scary movies. She is almost always spotted wearing purple, her favorite color, and loves talking about popular culture like movies.
Laura has started drawing and painting on a black ground while her palette has become richer and her narratives even more lively, and she has been enjoying making pieces from clay.
"My drawings on paper combine references to John Cena, WWE, vampire movies, pop music, and seasonal holidays. Human – animal – alien relationships play out in colorful, always purple, portraits of people and mythical creatures in scenes both fantastical and recognizable. My materials are immediate and expressive. Pastel crayons, paint markers and gel pens allow me get vibrant colors, textures and expressive marks on the black backgrounds."
